A brief breakdown of the Hop Garden Hoplite
If you're at the Hop Garden a wee bit more than you should be or if our friendly staff know you by name or your wife's and kids names, family pets etc then you've become a Hoplite. This does not mean you are here too often. It also has nothing to do with our previous heritage (see Theo's) and everything to do with Hops. The old definition of Hoplite has something to do with Sparta and soldiers with shields, spears, and swords most famous for the phalanx. The Wellington definition of a Hoplite is "a person who enjoys frequenting their funky local Mt Victoria establishment, The Hop Garden, Wellington famous for providing a great dining and craft beer experience".
We look forward to seeing you at the Hop Garden soon. Bring the wife and kids, leave the pets, spears, and shields.
